The children, the home, consisting of  Gotsadi,Asi,Unawadali, and the field rights belongs to the women. The Medicine belongs to the men, hereditarily passed down through the millenniums from the Anidawehi (Wise men).

The Anidawehi became wise men by fasting and calling on the Creator to send the good spirits to teach them what they needed to know so that the people would survive.

They were lead up the mountain of the big spring by Kanati (the first man) for this purpose.  At that time the people numbered a few thousand comprised of 14 large families.  many of the people, and animals had already died or been killed.

Turtle Island (ELOHI - Our mother earth) and some of all that the Creator had made was in the control of the AHSGINAH, and the evil spirits.  This is why there are storms, earthquakes, extreme cold, extreme heat, thorns on plants, poisonous creatures and plants, fangs and claws on creatures, and evil in the hearts of some people.  Seven of the families (clans) were taken over by the evil spirits which caused the Creator to give each of the seven clans a new, and diverse language.  The  Creator took the ability of speech from the animals so that man could not call them, and so kill them.  The evil spirits caused the bear clan to grow long hair all over their bodies so that they looked like bears.  The Creator told the ANIDAWEHI that bear clan would cease to exist on the earth, and the other six clans would be separated from the ANIYVWIYA.  The AHSGINAH caused such a great upheavals, and shaking of Turtle Island that the cracks in her back separated, and were filled with ice and water.

The ANIDAWEHI  were to be a clan of men as priest, medicine men, astronomers, meteorologists, etc.  Mostly from the same clan; however each clan would have some ADAWEHI.  They would be divided into 4 societies, and pass this knowledge and power for good down to their nephews, and grandsons.  I am of the SVYLANEDAI (night walkers) society.  The people would be a matrilineal clan order divided into two great societies; the white (peace), and the red (war).

The center of all society would be the GATUYI (town house) and the sacred fire where many ceremonies, dances, and town meetings were held.  The sacred fire was in the center of the square at it's base, and would come up through a  large hollow cedar log into the center of the town house.
