EHISDV NAHNAI (PLACE OF PAIN) |
|
Our children have always been most important to us. As a people today they are even regarded more so after the events of EHISDV NAHNAI, and others like it. The missionaries would travel from town to town, and house to house appearing to come with blessings, and peace. Their purpose was to identify "Indian" children, and their locations. They would then return later in greater numbers to rid the territory of it's blight, and to remove them to the mission boarding school. They taught them English, and changed all their ways; including language, dress, customs, and religion. Those that resisted were tortured, and eventually killed. Our response was to teach our children English, instruct them how to survive under this threat, and always say that they are BLACK DUTCH. With great sorrow and pain I speak these words of truth. All children should have the great benefit of ceremony to present before The Creator, and prayer that good spirits will continually be by them, and that UNEQUV (the Great Spirit of God) will give them the power of a pure heart.
