The children, the home, consisting of Gotsadi,Asi,Unawadali, and the field rights belongs to the women. The Medicine belongs to the men, hereditarily passed down through the millenniums from the Anidawehi (Wise men). When our mother earth was young, and Selu the first woman had been killed by her grandson (the boy that had grown up wild), the bad spirits gained power over part of the creation, and changed many things. The people were afraid that all things might die; so a group of men mostly from the same family went upon the mountain of the Great Spring to fast and ask the Creator, and good spirits for help.      The creator saw that their hearts were pure, and they were taught the way of medicine, social order, clan order and law, the changed cycle of mother earth, the new growing cycle of food and plants, stick ball to settle disagreements, the dance and songs, and many other things.      They were instructed that as long as their hearts were pure and they continued the medicine, the dance and prayer songs around the sacred fire, and ceremonies that they would continue as ANIYVWEYA (first people). This is why the medicine belongs to the men and we teach our nephews, and grandsons the way.      Billy Silverhawk has helped many, both bloods, and non-bloods with medicine ceremony. This is not NVWOTI AYONEGA (white man medicine); but given for all people by the creator... Our custom is to "Gift the medicine". This means to give from your heart something of importance, and meaning for the medicine that the Creator has given you.
