TSI-YUGUNSINI -   DRAGGING CANOE

Tsi- Yugunsini

He was born in Tenase about the year of 1737, and became a citizen of RUNNING WATER TOWN.  He is THE PROPHET, and the "GREAT WARRIOR" of the Chickamauga Cherokee.  At about the age of 13 he was allowed to go with the warriors if he could  drag alone a Cherokee canoe (dugout tree trunk).

His war title was earned when he was able to swoop down on the enemy as an eagle upon rabbits, and squirrels without being seen.  When he was seen, no enemy bullet, or weapon could strike him at anytime.  He became feared as a spirit rather than a man.  It is said that his spirit could shift from his body to the eagle in the sky so that he could observe his enemies.  On the night of February 29th 1792 as eagle-tail dance was held at Lookout Mountain.  DRAGGING CANOE  danced at the SACRED FIRE with many warriors until after sunrise, after which his spirit left his body to enter the after life.

He was buried near NICHAJACK TOWN  where a lake now exists.  Two years latter Major James Ore, and his army came, and destroyed both RUNNING WATER TOWN, and NICHAJACK (ANI KUSATIYI - old creek place).   This was after the body of DRAGGING CANOE was dismembered, and buried at different locations so that He would not come back to fight again.
